Start with the room that wastes the most heat

At SEK 199, LILJEBAGGE makes a strong case for trying smart radiator control in one room. A bedroom that stays warm all day or a home office that needs heat only during working hours is a better first target than a whole-home replacement. The valve can hold its last set temperature without internet and still accepts changes from the local display.

The low price does not change what this product controls. It replaces the thermostatic head on a water-based radiator and regulates that radiator's valve. It cannot create hot water when the building's central heating supply is off. Buyers who want each room to request heat from their own boiler need a coordinated heating system rather than a cheap valve alone.

Six adapters still make fit the first question

IKEA supplies six adapters and says they cover most water-based radiators. That is reassuring, but it is not a guarantee for every valve. Buy one, check the physical fit and complete calibration before ordering enough for the rest of the home. The thermostat reports an installation error when the adapter is wrong and a second error when the valve pin is stuck.

The white body is 50 mm across and 83 mm long. Two AA batteries are required and sold separately. IKEA estimates about 18 months from two new LADDA batteries, which is useful if borne out but remains a manufacturer estimate rather than a result measured by Matterhome.

There is another familiar radiator-valve compromise. The temperature sensor sits beside the heat source, so its reading can differ from the rest of the room. IKEA documents that limitation but does not name a separate room sensor that can take over control. A room with a radiator behind a curtain or sofa deserves extra caution.

Matter removes the IKEA hub requirement, not Thread

LILJEBAGGE pairs directly with a Matter system over Thread. DIRIGERA is one suitable hub, but it is not required when a compatible Matter controller and Thread border router are already available. IKEA names Amazon, Apple, Google, Homey and Samsung systems on the Swedish product page. It does not list Home Assistant for this exact thermostat.

The manual also warns that IKEA Home smart offers additional features and tells users of other Matter systems to check which controls their platform exposes. Treat basic temperature control as the safe expectation. Do not assume that every scheduled scene or valve-specific setting shown in IKEA's app appears elsewhere.

Tado and Eve cost more for clearer heating depth

Tado Smart Radiator Thermostat X is the stronger choice when Tado also controls a compatible boiler. Its current European offer is €64.99, with stored schedules, a physical dial and a removable rechargeable battery. That is a much larger investment, but it can coordinate room demand with the heat source instead of only throttling one radiator.

Eve Thermo costs €79.95 and is appealing for account-free schedules with replaceable AA batteries. Both rivals also have more mature documentation around schedules and room-temperature correction.

For a Swedish home that already has Thread and wants simple room-by-room control, LILJEBAGGE is the value pick. Buyers elsewhere should wait for a supported local listing instead of importing it merely to chase the shelf price.
