Aqara Power Plug H2 EU (SP-P05E)

Power Plug H2 EU is worth its roughly €30 price when a 16 A Matter-over-Thread plug is the actual requirement, especially if the option to move into Aqara Zigbee is useful. For ordinary switching and energy checks, the much cheaper Tapo P110M remains the better-value default. Advanced Aqara controls do not automatically follow the plug into every Matter app.

What we like

  • Direct Matter over Thread without an Aqara hub
  • Alternative Zigbee mode for deeper Aqara features
  • 16 A/3680 W resistive rating with energy monitoring
  • Acts as a router in the selected Thread or Zigbee mesh

What could be better

  • Costs more than twice as much as the Tapo P110M
  • Thread and Zigbee are alternative modes, not simultaneous connections
  • Aqara does not publish an exact controller-by-controller energy feature matrix
  • Indoor IP20 use only, with a 368 W motor-load limit

Thread is the reason to spend more

Power Plug H2 EU has a list price of about €33 and sells for about €29 at the German retailer tink. Either price puts it well above the Tapo P110M, which costs about €13 from Tapo's German store.

The difference buys Thread, not a better reason to put every lamp on a smart plug. H2 joins a Matter fabric through a Thread border router and also routes traffic for the selected Thread mesh. That can be useful where a powered device would strengthen the path to nearby battery sensors. It is a poor reason to buy the required border-router hardware solely for one outlet.

This is also a stronger high-load specification than the 11 A Eve Energy Europe, which cost about €40 when last checked. Aqara rates SP-P05E for 16 A and up to 3680 W with a resistive load at 230 V. That does not make every 16 A appliance suitable; the separate published motor-load limit is only 368 W.

Thread and Zigbee are two different purchases

In Thread mode, H2 pairs directly with a Matter app by scanning its setup code. It needs a Matter controller and Thread border router but no Aqara hub. Aqara lists Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant for the exact product.

Zigbee mode is the alternative for deeper Aqara Home features. It requires a compatible Aqara hub, after which the hub can bridge the plug into Matter ecosystems. The modes are not simultaneous connections. Moving between them means resetting and recommissioning the plug, so it is better to choose the route that fits the home rather than treating both logos as two live integrations.

The dual-protocol design is most valuable for someone already deciding between those networks. A Thread household can avoid another brand hub now, while an Aqara household can choose Zigbee for the manufacturer's fuller controls. A buyer who only needs inexpensive Matter switching over existing Wi-Fi gets little from that flexibility.

The meter needs a realistic app expectation

Aqara documents power monitoring, real-time readings and daily or monthly reports. It also advertises power-based automations, charging cut-off, overload protection and overheat protection. Those are useful reasons to put a suitable desk setup or appliance on the plug rather than using it as an expensive remote switch.

The documentation does not provide an exact table showing which energy readings, histories or automations appear in each third-party Matter app. Basic on/off support across the named ecosystems is the safe expectation. Buy the plug for energy data in a particular controller only after confirming that controller exposes the readings you need; Aqara Home's charts and automations should not be assumed to appear unchanged elsewhere.

That uncertainty makes Tapo the safer value recommendation for Home Assistant or SmartThings energy monitoring. Tapo explicitly documents those Matter energy paths for updated P110M firmware, while charging much less. H2 earns its premium when Thread or Aqara's Zigbee option is part of the requirement.

Treat it as a dry indoor adapter

The current manual identifies a Type E/F plug, recessed Type F socket, IP20 protection and an operating range of -10 to 40°C. That is the conservative specification to follow indoors. Aqara's product page lists a wider temperature range, but the manual is the safer basis for placement.

Its body is about 52 mm in diameter and 83 mm long. Aqara says the shape generally avoids blocking an adjacent outlet, but plug strips and wall plates vary. Check the actual spacing rather than treating a marketing image as a fit guarantee.

Choose H2 EU for a suitable load when Thread is worth paying for, or when the ability to recommission into an existing Aqara Zigbee system solves a real future choice. Choose P110M for the lower-cost everyday meter. Choose Eve Energy when its account-free app and stored schedules matter more than Aqara's 16 A rating.
